Tactical lights differ from the ordinary
flashlight in two ways: Intensity of the light beam and location
of the light switch. The first thing you will notice about your
tactical light is the extreme brightness of the light output -
especially if you shine it in your own eyes, or worse yet, those of a
close and former friend. When you recover from momentary blindness
you will come to the realization that the bright light is not only to
see and identify, but it is also important for blinding and disorienting
a perp bent on harming you. The light switch on tactical lights is located on the butt-end of the light and is often called a tail-switch. This location of the switch allows you to use one of several flashlight techniques to allow you to both light up a perp and to maintain a full-combat grip on the handgun in the ready-to-fire position. If you are going to survive criminal and civil litigation after having to use your weapon to defend your life it is only prudent that you show that you had full identification of the threat in no, low or diminished light. Tactical lights can not only help to save your life, they can also save the life of the perp, especially if a shot is not required to de-escalate the threat. I strongly suggest formal training, especially training that incorporates the use of tactical lights. Depending on the source of the information for citizen self-defense shootings, the majority of attacks have three things in common: (1) They happen in no, low or diminished light, (2) They happen between 3 and 7 feet, and (3) The attacker is frontal, or looking straight on you. You just can't have to much information!

Streamlight
SCORPION I've owned and used many, many tactical lights both in conceal carry and in my yearly pilgrimage to Front Sight for tactical training. Also, I am free to put ANY tactical flashlight on this web site; and I choose to post the Streamlight brand. The Scorpion tactical light is 4.9 inches of pure blinding 6000 candlepower light with an outer shell of machined aluminum with a rubber grip surface. With a weight of only 4.4 ounces the Scorpion is light enough to carry full-time. The beam is variable from flood to spot and a polycarbonate lens protects the Xenon gas-filled bi-pin lamp. The lamp is controlled by a triple-action tail cap switch. Battery power is provided by 2 - 3 volt lithium batteries which provide 1 continuous hour of light. The Scorpion is a serious tactical light as witnessed by its popularity with police and federal agents. |
